全書(shū)共分10個(gè)單元，每個(gè)單元包括3課，兩課英譯漢，一課漢譯英。每課有原文、作者簡(jiǎn)介、原作簡(jiǎn)介、注釋、譯文、譯者簡(jiǎn)介、譯文賞析、翻譯技巧學(xué)習(xí)、翻譯理論學(xué)習(xí)（第三課后）和練習(xí)。按照大綱的要求，課文的材料主要取自于英美原著、報(bào)刊文摘、公文演講等，而練習(xí)則主要取自于現(xiàn)當(dāng)代報(bào)刊、雜志，目的是為了讓讀者更多地接觸現(xiàn)當(dāng)代語(yǔ)言。
本書(shū)讀者對(duì)象是大學(xué)英語(yǔ)專(zhuān)業(yè)本科生（三、四年級(jí)）、翻譯工作者和翻譯愛(ài)好者。
本書(shū)的編者是幾位對(duì)翻譯教學(xué)與譯論研究、譯文實(shí)踐有切身體會(huì)的青年教師；教材內(nèi)容是編者經(jīng)過(guò)深入的理論和審美思考后精心選擇并編寫(xiě)的。由于編者的實(shí)踐經(jīng)驗(yàn)和理論修養(yǎng)都有不足之處，書(shū)中難免存在一己之見(jiàn)或疏漏和錯(cuò)誤，懇請(qǐng)廣大讀者和專(zhuān)家多加批評(píng)和指正。
